A Letter from CEO John Marks 1

On 8th February 2020 just a few months ago Rhema FM celebrated one year of being in our new “Home” 30 Warabrook Boulvarde, Warabrook and hasn’t that gone fast”?

We rejoice in God’s goodness to His Christian radio station to provide for us this marvellous new home with state of the art studios the like of which we have only ever dreamt about.

I felt it was a good time for us all to stop and say ‘Thank You’ Lord!  35 years ago God began a good work in our city and region by leading guiding and directing visionaries Russell and Betty Aitcheson, a humble builder and his wife to catch the vision of the need for 100% Christian radio in Newcastle and the Hunter.

They paid their own airfares to Christchurch New Zealand to see firsthand what God was doing there after reading an article in the Newcastle Herald placed there by Rhema NZ to see if anyone in Newcastle Australia wanted an all Christian radio station in the Hunter.

In 1985 Rhema FM (or Radio Rhema as it was known) was formed in Newcastle. In 1987 Rhema held its first temporary broadcast (one week allowed in a year) After this Rhema got to hold temporary broadcasts of just 90 days a year out of 365 days over a very long 14 years. Some said we should give up as it was taking too long, but Rhema FM stood on God’s promise He gave us from Habakkuk 2:3 that says…”For The Vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastens toward the goal, and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; for it will certainly come, it will not delay.”

To this day, we have a little black and red picture frame in our studios with this typed on a piece of paper from all those years ago in the very early 1990’s years before Rhema FM was awarded its full time licence in December 1999.  Lord, we rejoice in all you’ve done, we thank you for touching all the lives you’ve touched, healed and saved through a little thing called a radio receiver that can reach anyone, anytime and anywhere.
