I hate change. ….At least, I hate change that is out of my control. Change that I am in control of, like going on holiday, getting a new haircut, or painting a room a new colour, those changes I like. Change like leaving the house in the morning thinking everything is normal and then being told during the day that we are all in lockdown from 5pm, those changes throw me. I take time to process, make a new plan, work though what this means for me. Are you like me, or are you someone who can just go with the flow and change doesn’t worry you at all? If you are a ‘go with the flow’ person I admire you! If you are more like me, here are some things that help me process change that’s outside my control. Maybe something will resonate with you.

Take a breath

Before deciding how you feel, take a moment to pause. Take a deep breath. Say a prayer. If you have time and are able, maybe go for a walk. Just do something that will help remind you that you don’t need to react right now.

Look for a positive

Sometimes looking at something from a different perspective makes all the difference. Lockdown means my family’s morning is less rushed – I got to sit down and have breakfast with my family this morning rather than just rushing out the door after maybe a coffee.

Remember God is ultimately in control

No matter what happens, good or bad, God is there with you, you are not alone. Psalm 94:19 says “when I was burdened with worries, you comforted me and made me feel secure” (CEV). Give your worries over to God, he’s big enough to handle them.

I hope this Lockdown we are in is able to end in a week and life can go back to semi-normal BUT even if it doesn’t I know God is with me. I will take a breath, remind myself God IS in control, enjoy having breakfast with my family and come up with a new plan.
