We chatted to JOHN ELDREDGE about hIS NEW BOOK, taking care of the soul & his PERSONAL FAITH JOURNEY

John Eldredge is an American New York Times best-selling author, counsellor, and lecturer on Christianity. He is known for his best-selling book Wild at Heart. Some of his other books include; Beautiful Outlaw, Walking with God & Get Your Life Back.

Get Your Life Back: Everyday Practices for a World Gone Mad, is from Wayne’s perspective, one of John’s best books. Wayne likes that John brings the reader into his world, it’s very relatable with regards to the time we find ourselves living in and the world around us.

Was a lot of the content in your new book Get Your Life Back, your personal journey and lessons you’ve learnt along the way?

I didn’t intend on writing this book. It began as a personal journey. I was overwhelmed, I was running too fast & burnt out, a couple of years ago. And I just needed to get my own soul better. So I began a personal process of trying to get out of the madness and do something about the pace of my life, media & technology. It really began to help, I began to get better.

I started sharing it with some friends & family. And they said “you know you really should write this”. This was never on the agenda, it wasn’t on the roster. It came out of exactly of what you just said ‘a personal journey’.

Given that this came from a personal journey, was this an easy book to write?

It’s easier, because I just had to go back through my journals. I literally did! I would go back through my recovery and getting back to sanity. Finding a way of life that was sustainable with God was over a year and a half.

So I just went back through my old journals and remembered good stories and passages of scripture that God took me deeper into. I began mining the pieces of the story that I thought would be helpful for others. So it was a pleasure to write. I really enjoyed writing it because it took me back through and helped me embrace it all a little deeper.
